KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) - Fire crews and forestry workers in Kamloops are battling a brush fire encroaching on homes near the city’s Peterson Creek Park.
Thick smoke is billowing from the fire, which is estimated to be about two hectares in size.
An evacuation order was initially called for a nearby senior’s home, but that has since been called off.
At one point, the fire was burning only a few hundred metres from several buildings.
Cheryl Williams, who lives near the fire, says she’s worried about the wind blowing hot ashes in the direction of her home.
Two helicopters have been called in to help dump water on the fire.
