Man dead after shooting at Port Moody rec centre

PORT MOODY (NEWS1130) – A 35-year-old man has been killed in Port Moody.

Gurbinder Singh Toor, of Squamish, was shot while standing in the parking lot of a rec centre on Ioco Road. News1130 has learned the victim had ties to Sandip Duhre, a high-profile gangster who was gunned down in Downtown Vancouver earlier this year.

Several shots rang out before 10 o’clock last night. Katie lives nearby and says it’s usually a quiet area. “It was a very quick sequence of shots, very fast. It sounded like fireworks.”

A group of men was playing soccer on a nearby field when it happened. One tells us he heard about nine shots. “Six in succession and then three delayed [shots]. It sounded exactly like a standardized handgun. It went silent and all of a sudden, we started hearing sirens.”

He adds it was a little scary to wait for information as officers, some carrying large rifles, spread out around the building.

Dozens of people using the rec centre were stuck there for several hours as they waited to retrieve their cars from behind police tape.

The case has been handed over to the Vancouver Police homicide unit.
