Protest on Arthur Laing Bridge caused morning traffic delays

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Traffic between Richmond and Vancouver was a nightmare this morning.

Members of the Musqueam Indian Band staged a protest on the Arthur Laing Bridge on the span linking Richmond with Marine Drive in Vancouver.

They are against the construction of a condo development just off of SW Marine Drive, which they say will destroy a burial ground and disrespects their ancestors.

We asked Chief Ernie Campbell if things could escalate. “I’ve always said you should never question the resolve of Musqueam. We’ve been here for thousands of years… we’re not going anywhere.”

The band suggests we could see more protests like the one this morning if the province does not listen to their concerns.
