TERRACE (NEWS1130) – Three people are confirmed dead in the crash of a helicopter west of Terrace.
The chopper went down near Sleeping Beauty Mountain around 9 a.m.
It was on a training mission and belongs to Bailey Helicopters, which is based out of Fort St. John. All aboard were employees of the company.
Out of respect for the families involved and pending notification of family, the company is not releasing the names of the victims.
The owner of the the company, Dan Wuthrich, says the weather in the area isn’t good, which made it a challenge for search and rescue crews to get to the site.
“Search and rescue technicians aboard the Buffalo aircraft arrived at Terrace airport at noon and have transferred to a civilian helicopter and are now at the site. Weather in the area is poor and deteriorating,” says Gerry Pash with Joint Search and Rescue in Victoria.
The chopper is an A-Star 350 model.
