KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) – BC’s Environment Minister says the bear they believe dragged a man’s body from a car earlier this week near Kamloops has now been euthanized.

Terry Lake says it matched the description of the suspect bear but to be sure they will be conducting a necropsy on it.

“It was obviously not afraid of human smell and this is a message to all of us that we have to be extremely careful when we encounter bears,” he explains. “We must do our best to not attract bears because unfortunately it often ends up in a death sentence for the bear.”

Rory Wagner, 54, died of unknown causes in a car on a remote road north west of Stump Lake before the bear pulled his body from the vehicle Wednesday.

Two bears were trapped in the area with one being killed while the other was released.
