NANAIMO (NEWS1130) – A major snarl for those heading to the mainland from Nanaimo Saturday afternoon. BC Ferries had to cancel a couple of sailing thanks to a bomb scare.
A bomb threat was called into BC Ferries and was specific to the Queen of Coquitlam, which was just about to take off from Nanaimo’s Departure Bay.
David Eisner was onboard and says there was a delay in the sailing, when an announcement was made. “We hadn’t left yet, for unknown reasons. They said they’d get back to us. After waiting for a half hour they announced there was a bomb threat and that we had to immediately evacuate the ferry.”
Eisner says there no panic. “It was extremely calm. They were very profession, very organized. It was very well controlled.”
Bomb sniffing dogs were brought in, but eventually found nothing. The Departure Bay terminal itself was also closed for a couple of hours.
