TERRACE (NEWS1130) – We now know the name of one of three people killed when a helicopter crashed near Terrace yesterday.
Peter Bryant, 45, was a highly experienced pilot who lived in Terrace and had been with Bailey Helicopters for 11 years. It’s still unclear if he was at the controls when the helicopter went down during a training mission near Sleeping Beauty Mountain.
Poor weather conditions prevented crews from reaching the crash site yesterday.
Bill Yearwood with the Transportation Safety Board says they dispatched two investigators to Terrace but there is an avalanche risk, making it unsafe for crews to go in.
“It’s a difficult location and if we can’t get in there, then we’ll take pictures and do our best to see what we can do and get professionals to go in and get the wreckage, if that’s what we are left with,” explains Yearwood.
Bailey Helicopters says it will release the names of the other two employees when next of kin have been notified.
Bailey Helicopters is based out of Fort St. John. All on-board were employees of the company.
