MILWAUKEE, WI (NEWS1130) – Gibsons’ Ryan Dempster gave up just three hits while striking out three and walking none in seven innings of work as he earned his first win of the season. Dempster’s strong outing led the Chicago Cubs to a 10-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dempster (1-3) has pitched solidly for most of the season but has been unable to capture the elusive first victory. He entered today’s game with a 0-3 record and 2.90 ERA in nine starts.

The 35-year-old had a perfect game going into the sixth inning before Milwaukee’s Cody Ransom broke it up with a single.

Dempster threw 101 pitches, 68 for strikes, as he lowered his ERA to 2.59.

The right-hander was given plenty of run support early in the game, as Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning and then Bryan LaHair added a solo shot in the fourth.

Shawn Camp and Jairo Asencio combined to close the game out for the Cubs, giving up two hits in the final two innings.
