VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s plenty of action in store for the local sports fan this weekend.

MLS

The two-week break is over for the Vancouver Whitecaps with a home game on Sunday (4 p.m. BC Place) against the Houston Dynamo. The game is the first of an important June three-game homestand before a five game road trip that carries the team into July.

The Whitecaps (5-3-4) will be looking to end a three-game league losing streak against Houston (4-3-4).  Sunday’s match is the third meeting between Vancouver and Houston with the Whitecaps splitting the first two meetings with the Dynamo last season.

Vancouver will be without young forward Omar Salgado who fractured his right foot while playing for the United States U-20 National Team in Uruguay on Wednesday.  Team doctors will examine the 18-year-old when he returns to Vancouver.

CFL

The BC Lions continue training camp in Kamloops. The weekend is highlighted by the team’s annual Fanfest on Sunday at Thompson Rivers University which will feature a number of  family-friendly attractions including performances by the Felions Dance Team and Q&As with Lions players and coaches.

Lions fans will have their chance to meet the team during an autograph session from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m..
BC opens the CFL preseason next Wednesday with a home game against Saskatchewan at BC Place.
