Vancouver tennis player will play in Paris final

PARIS, FR (NEWS1130) – Filip Peliwo will play in the junior Roland-Garros boys singles final in Paris on Sunday. The fifth-seed from Vancouver will meet sixth-seeded Kimmer Copperjans of Belgium for the title.

It is both players first appearance in the French Open.

Peliwo came from behind to knock off Adam Pavlasek of the Czech Republic 2-6, 7-6 (5) and 6-0. The Canadian was two points away from defeat in the match. The 18-year-old right-hander had just three unforced errors in the match. He also pounded out five aces.

Pavlasek had previously defeated world number one Luke Saville of Australia in the quarter-finals.

Saville defeated Peliwo in three sets at the first major, the Australian Open in Melbourne at the start of the year.

That match was played on hard court. The Sunday final will be played on clay at the Philippe-Chatrier court.
