Employees want a more relaxed work schedule: survey

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It is the number one request for office workers during the summer months – more flexible hours.

A new OfficeTeam survey found that 44 per cent of employees want a more flexible schedule.

Lisa Fried with OfficeTeam says it’s a nice perk that goes a long way for a boost in productivity.

Leaving work early on Friday came in second on the survey with 37 per cent. The only catch is making sure whatever work needs to be done, actually gets done.

“So the individual can say, ‘Well this is what I thought up and this is how I can get the work covered.’ The worst thing the manager will say is no, we can’t accommodate that,” says Fried.

One of those solutions is coming in early Monday thru Thursday to make up for any lost time.

A couple of other benefits people wanted were company picnics and potlucks, and a more relaxed dress code.

Not all employers are on-board with flexible hours. The study found only 23 per cent of human resources managers said their company offers flexible schedules during the summer, while only 20 per cent said their staff was allowed to leave work early on Fridays.
