Magnotta off the hook in L.A: Miami police investigating connection between cold case and “Canadian Cannibal”

By

LOS ANGELES – Police said they do not believe there is a connection between Luka Magnotta and crimes in the United States, including body parts found near the famous Hollywood sign. In Fact, they have not been able to figure out if Magnotta has visited Los Angeles, and two other U.S cities in question, New York and Tuscon.

A police commander told ABC News Friday, the force has now ruled out a connection.

Meanwhile, Miami Police are the latest force trying to determine if there’s a link between an unsolved homicide and the suspect in Montreal’s body parts case.

Miami Police Sergeant Confessor Gonzalez says there are similarities between the killing Luka Rocco Magnotta is accused of and the death and dismemberment of a man in 2009.

He says he plans to contact Montreal police and compare notes and determine Magnotta’s movements across the Canada-US border.

Magnotta is charged in the death and dismemberment of 33-year-old Concordia University student Jun Lin.

Lin’s  foot and a hand were mailed to political parties in Ottawa.

There’s no evidence to connect Magnotta to any other such crimes.

But the international publicity surrounding the Montreal case has attracted the attention of investigators in several jurisdictions.

Concordia University in Montreal is taking steps to honour Jun Lin.  The school says an award named after Lin will be given to a deserving student.

Concordia is also creating a fund to help Lin’s relatives pay their expenses during their stressful trip to Montreal to claim his remains.

Magnotta, 29, was arrested in Berlin this week and is awaiting extradition back to Canada.
