Tourism Vancouver looking ahead to 2015

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – People in the tourism industry believe we’ll break some visitor records mid-decade.

The year 2015 could well end up being the best year in tourism ever, in BC,” exclaims Tourism Vancouver‘s new board chair Gord Johnson.

He says a couple of long-term strategies are paying off, especially for the industry in Vancouver.

First is the marketing of the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre.

Most international associations, the ones that meet in cities all over the world, work ten years in advance, so it takes a little while before you can sell the place long enough to get on their calendars,” explains Johnson.

Next is capturing visitors looking for a little entertainment.

“The cultural arts are something that has become a much more vivid part of the Vancouver scenery than it was a number of years ago, and we believe it can play a bigger part in the years to come.”

Plus, he expects 2015 to be an excellent year for the cruise ship business.
