VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s one thing that many of you think would improve the health care system and it involves sharing.

A new Angus Reid study shows British Columbians think better access to information for researchers and health care professionals. The belief is that sharing information would help find cures, improve treatment, save money and even create jobs.

“It’s very rare, especially in the last year and a half, to find 80 per cent of British Columbians agreeing on something and this is something that they believe should be done,” notes Mario Canseco with Angus Reid.

However, British Columbians want to make sure the data is depersonalized, with private information kept safe. Canseco claims some are skeptical about the information getting into the hands of private organizations like drug companies.

“There’s an appetite for this type of situation to happen here in BC because we already has a big data base that hasn’t been used. But also people believe that this is going to end up helping the health care system.”

He adds support is especially high among older generations.

The online survey had a sample size of 800 British Columbians.
