More Stanley Cup riot charges recommended

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More Stanley Cup riot charges recommended puts Vancouver closer to reaching a Canadian milestone.

The investigation into the riot has resulted in the most charges linked to one single incident in our country’s history.

Police are recommending 82 more charges against 25 more suspected rioters.

When this wraps up, Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu says 300 people could be charged with over 900 offences.

“Almost everyone has been charged with participating in a riot, that is the most serious charge we can lay. This will ensure the greatest accountability from the courts,” believes Chu. “Today we are doing another appeal for citizens to go to our website to help us identify our 10 most unidentified worst rioters.”

The riot investigation team is being downsized now that fewer tips are coming in.

“My message again to the rioters — just because police haven’t contacted you yet, don’t think you have gotten away with it.”

So far, the investigation has cost about $2 million.
