DELTA (NEWS1130) – It stretched over almost nine hours but Delta Police were able to end a standoff on 47th Avenue in Ladner tonight without violence.
Officers were called to 51st Street and 47th Avenue in Ladner just before noon today with reports of a distraught man.
“A male had barricaded himself in a shed. We were advised that there was a likelihood that he had firearms,” explains Delta Police Constable Ciaran Feenan. “We called out our Municipal Integrated Response Team.”
The suspect was taken to hospital for an assessment, as police decide whether he will face criminal charges.
Students at Delta Secondary were being kept inside the school this afternoon, and were then bused to Sacred Heart Elementary so their parents could pick them up.
Grade 9 student Daniel says students were all asked to head to their homerooms just after 12 p.m.
“I think it’s kind of interesting. It’s not everyday that this happens. Overall it’s been a pretty weird day,” he adds.
Students were also being kept inside at Ladner Elementary and Port Guichon Elementary Schools, but those lock-downs were lifted earlier in the day.
