A trio of BC cyclists are headed to Summer Olympics

LOS ANGELES, CA (NEWS1130) – Two-time world champ Tara Whitten will be joined by BC cyclists Jasmin Glaesser of Coquitlam and Victoria’s Gillian Carleton on the Canadian women’s pursuit team at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Vancouver’s Laura Brown will be an alternate on the team pursuit squad.

This will be the the first time the woman’s team pursuit will be held at Olympics. The Canadian pursuit team took the silver at an Olympic test event in London and won the bronze at the last World Championships.

Whitten hails from Edmonton and is the captain of the team pursuit team.

For the first time ever, this country qualified for six track cycling events at the 2012 games.

Lori-Ann Muenzer won this countries last medal on the cycling track eight years ago in Athens.  She took the gold in the women’s sprint.

The track events will be held in the Velodrome at the north end of London’s Olympic Park.
