Dragon boats in honour of Milton Wong unveiled

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Close to 200 dragon boat teams can take a well-deserved rest, as competition at the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boats Festival on False Creek has wrapped up for another year.

The festival’s Anita Webster says this was the first year boats named after the late philanthopist Milton Wong were unveiled.

“The boats are fast, roomy and stable and they’re great boats to race in,” she enthuses.

Wong was a co-founder of the festival, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year.

The event continues to draw competitors from all walks of life. “We have a huge range of teams, from competitive, recreational, high schools, seniors and people with special causes to promote,” says Webster.

Teams came from as far away as Philadelphia and California.
