Furyk and McDowell share US Open lead ahead of final round

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (NEWS1130) – Former champions Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell share the lead heading into today’s final round of the US Open. The pair sit at one-under par and hold a two-stroke advantage over Fredrik Jacobson.
Furyk, who won in 2003, shot an even-par 70 in yesterday’s third round to remain as one of the few players to be under par for the tournament, while 2010-champion McDowell fired a two-under 68 to pull into a tie with Furyk.
Tiger Woods entered the third round tied for the lead but struggled his way to a five-over 75 to drop five strokes off the pace. Woods is looking to end a four-year major title drought.
Amateur Beau Hossler, 17, who held the lead at one point during the second round, remained in the hunt as he carded his second even-par 70 of the week to remain at three-over par. He’s tied for eighth.
Canada’s lone player in the field is Calgary’s Stephen Ames. Ames had a dreadful third round as he was nine-over on the day and sits in 72nd-place of the 72 players remaining with a score of +16.
Furyk and McDowell will be the final pairing of the day to tee off at the Olympic Club. They’ll get started at 3:10 p.m.
