SAN FRANCISCO, CA (NEWS1130) – American Webb Simpson posted back to back rounds of two-under-par 68′s on the weekend to capture his first major golf title. Simpson takes the 112th US Open with a final score of one over par.

It was just the second time Simpson had played in his national championship and only the fifth major he had participated in.

Since Friday, veteran Jim Furyk had the lead or co-lead until the sixteenth hole on Sunday. Furyk duck hooked his drive and never recovered, as he bogeyed the hole and finished tied for fourth.

The 2010 champion Graeme McDowell had a long putt to tie the tournament on the 72nd hole but missed on the final foggy day at the Olympic course. McDowell and first round leader Michael Thompson finished tied for second, one shot off the pace.

Tiger Woods ended up at seven over par.

The next major will be The Open championship at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire England in a month.
