VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Goodbye spring. Hello summer!

Summer officially arrives at 4:09 p.m. tomorrow and most Vancouverites can’t wait for the change in season

“We get that one day when the weather teases us with the sunshine and after that it’s back to the rain,” one woman tells News1130. “We always expect Vancouver summers to be beautiful. You want to be on the beach or by the water and this year it hasn’t really happened.”

Another man was still wearing his heavy winter jacket and scarf on his way to work today. He can’t wait for summer to start.  “It’s always an indication for me when it turns summer that I can actually expose more skin and be comfortable.”

News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate is giving this past spring a C- grade.

“It rained on 45 out of the previous 90 days,” notes Lacate. “What’s really stood out is the chill. It was only the month of May where the temperature measured up to the so-called normal. March, April and now June were all significantly colder than average.”

He adds we’re still on pace to come very close to an all-time record coldest June that dates back to 1971.

Since spring began back in March, the mercury has only topped the 20 degree mark twice.
