MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Luka Rocco Magnotta has pleaded not guilty in the killing and dismembering of a Chinese student.

Appearing in a Montreal courtroom via video link, Magnotta has pledged to protest his innocence in a murder-and-dismemberment case that has drawn international attention.

His lawyer also asked for a psychiatric evaluation for his client to be completed before his next court appearance.

The 29-year-old murder suspect was shackled and taken into custody at Mirabel airport north of Montreal last night, after being returned from Germany aboard a military plane.

Magnotta, a self-described porn actor and prostitute, faces charges including first-degree murder, defiling a corpse, and harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

He is accused of killing and dismembering Jun Lin, and mailing out his body parts to different places across the country including the Ottawa offices of the Conservative Party of Canada and two schools in Vancouver.

Magnotta became the target of an international manhunt and was arrested earlier this month in a Berlin Internet cafe while reportedly reading news stories about himself.
