Vancouver opens season winning four of five games in NWL

SPOKANE, WA (NEWS1130) – The Canadians return to Nat Bailey after winning four of five games in Spokane to open the Northwest League season. Vancouver scored six runs in the final two innings to win the finale 7-1.
Tied 1-1 in the top of the eighth, Spokane made three errors and Vancouver never looked back, scoring three times.
In his only at bat in the ninth inning, Matt Newman had a two-run double for the C’s. Vancouver added one run to cap the game.
Spokane had five errors in the contest.
Pitchers Javier Avendano, Nicholas Purdy, and Ian Kadish each threw three innings for Vancouver. Avendano and Kadish each struck out five, while Purdy had four strike outs. Spokane managed only four hits.
The C’s host Tri- City in the 2012 home opening five-game series.
Vancouver defeated the Dust Devils for the 2011 league title last September. Vancouver has 11 players from that club on the roster.
First pitch for the home open is at 7:05pm on Wednesday night.
