Only one transponder for new Port Mann and Golden Ears

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – You may already have a transponder on your vehicle to pay for your trip over the Golden Ears Bridge. If so, you won’t need a separate electronic device to pay for tolls on the new Port Mann Bridge.

That transponder can be used for both bridges.

“If you have a Golden Ears transponder, it will work on the Port Mann. If you have a Port Mann decal, it will work on the Golden Ears as well, once the tolling starts on the Port Mann,” explains Drew Snider with TransLink.

“We’ve been working with the Ministry of Transportation [and the] Transportation Investment Corporation to make sure there is interoperability between the two tolling systems,” he adds.

Registration will happen soon, but Snider tells us a few things need to be sorted out first. “Things related to billing, how you get the decals, and how you make sure you have what you need [to use it on] the Golden Ears bridge.”

Regular Port Mann users will pay a toll of about $3; those with a transponder get a discount. A full tolling structure is expected in a few weeks.

The transportation mega-project should be completed by December.
