SURREY (NEWS1130) – Just in case you didn’t see it, the province wants to make sure you know it’s there.

The provincial government is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to convince you to use the new Port Mann Bridge.

Transportation Minister Blair Lekstrom says it’s important to market the new crossing.

“The budget on this is $400,000 for the advertising that’s going on,” he notes. “But I do think that when you look at a $3.3-billion project like this, making sure people are aware of what the project means to them and their families and our province is very important.”

The opening of the bridge is still six months away. Lekstrom says marketing will increase the closer they get to the opening.

“We will ramp that up as I’ve said earlier when we finalize our tolling framework so people are aware of what the benefits are, how they can sign up. We have [already] seen an incredible uptake in the website already.”

The marketing ads promote commute times reduced by up to an hour, of course with a $3 toll each way.
