Inquest called into the death of Angus Mitchell

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A coroner’s inquest will be held into the police-shooting death of Angus David Mitchell in Maple Ridge.

Mitchell was a person of interest in the deaths of two people at a Burnaby sushi restaurant and the shooting of his former landlord.

Barb McClintock with the BC Coroners Service says they will set a date after Vancouver police finish their investigation into Mitchell’s death.

He was gunned down by Emergency Response Team officers in May after someone spotted his van on a rural Maple Ridge road just hours after Burnaby Mounties warned the public about him.

“Even though the Vancouver Police haven’t finished their external investigation into the circumstances of the shooting of Mr. Mitchell,” says Barb McClintock with the BC Coroners Service,”we thought it was reasonable to announce that we were definitely going to hold an inquest, although we can’t set a date until that job by the Vancouver Police has been done.”

After Mitchell was shot dead, police revealed he had compiled a hit list.
