VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s looking likely that government workers will go on strike this summer.

News1130 has learned what BCGEU is planning, after negotiations broke off last week.

Workers in government liquor stores and warehouses, corrections and institutions like Riverview hospital are among the approximately 25,000 employees likely to be picketing this summer.

“By August the 13th we have to make a decision or our strike vote is void, we’d have to re-do it. You can pretty much assume that we’re going to do something over the period of the next month,” says BCGEU President Darryl Walker.

He adds that strike notice could be issued as early as this week. Wages have been a major sticking point during negotiations.
