Gang co-founder shot to death in Port Moody

PORT MOODY (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Police have now confirmed the identity of the victim in yesterday’s brazen shooting in Port Moody.

Randynesh (Randy) Raman Naicker of Burnaby was shot and killed outside a Starbucks near St. Johns Street and Queens Street. The 34-year-old was one of the founders of the Independent Soldiers gang.

At this point, there are no firm details on any possible suspect or suspects.

The shooting took place at around 4:45 p.m. yesterday, as people were heading home from work.

One man told News1130 the shots had him taking cover from a restaurant patio.

“And I looked where the shooting was coming [from], then I [ran] inside,” says the man, who suggests he saw at least one person wearing a mask on the street.

Dawa Ravinggvee describes what she heard from her Thai restaurant on St. John’s Street, while interviewing someone for a job. At first she thought it sounded like construction.

“Bang, bang, bang, like that. Then we went outside to the balcony, you know we saw the car, with a window broken,” says Ravinggvee.

The violence had one man feeling a little worried, as he stopped to watch the police gather evidence.

“A pretty big shock. I mean Port Moody’s kind of a small place, you don’t really think something like this will happen so close to where you live,” he says, adding the area is always busy with commuters at that time of the afternoon.

“People are getting off school, there’s a school up there,” he says. “A bus stop here, you know, Starbucks and stuff, a couple restaurants around here.”

Some witnesses suggest more than a dozen shots were fired, and one woman said she saw a dark SUV speeding away down an alley.

Vancouver Police Homicide Investigators, Forensic Identification Unit, and members of the Port Moody Police Department were on the scene for most of last night looking for clues and canvassing the area.

If you have any information, or saw the shooting, you’re asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Port Moody’s second murder of the year.
