Houseboat companies could take a hit thanks to water levels

SICAMOUS (NEWS1130) – Houseboat companies could be taking a hit this weekend because of the uncertain water levels.

It is not known how much money will be lost or how long it could take to make it back this summer, but the regional district has currently closed the Shuswap Park boat launch to ensure public safety.

Neil Millar with Waterway Houseboat Vacations says his company won’t be sailing at all this weekend because of water damage to the property

“We’ve contacted everybody, we are working on that and making other arrangements at another time,” he explains. “We hope to be up and running by maybe mid to end of next week…but right now we are just assessing everything.”

Vacationers are being warned that if people do end up on the water, they will have to be incredibly careful with all the debris.

The regional district says the biggest concern is further damage to the shoreline from boat wakes in the water.
