Man’s body found in remote North Vancouver area

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man’s body has been discovered in a remote area of North Vancouver.

RCMP Sergeant Peter DeVries says some hikers called police around 3 p.m. yesterday after spotting what looked like a person.

“This was about an hour’s hike north of the Skyline Boulevard area in the… northern part of the residential area of North Vancouver,” explains DeVries.

He tells us the man died from a fall and there are no signs of foul play. Mounties know the man’s identity.

“Yes, we do, but because we haven’t yet completed the notification of his family, we’re not able to release that,” explains DeVries, though he’s not saying whether the man was the subject of any missing persons reports.

The body was at the bottom of a steep hill near the Dreamweaver trail. Officers went with the hikers to check the scene and had to use high-angle lines and a helicopter to lift the body out.

DeVries adds North Shore Rescue helped Mounties to determine how to reach the person because of its extensive knowledge of the North Shore backcountry, although the team normally handles rescue situations, not recovery efforts.
