VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It was a rare sight at English Bay this afternoon, as a pod of orcas feasts on seals.

Captain Gary Sutton with Wild Whales Vancouver says about six whales were spotted along Jericho Beach.

“They hunted a couple of seals and did some surface activity with spyhops and little tail flops and then proceeded west towards Point Grey and out into the Strait so it was a pretty awesome day.”

The group is a transient pod.

Sutton says he’s never seen orcas so close to the city in his five years of whale watching.
