VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Jockey Mario Gutierrez is now a permanent fixture at Hastings Park. The locally-trained jockey has a statue of himself at the track after riding I’ll Have Another to victories in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

“Everything has been great,” Gutierrez tells News1130. “Because even the whole time I was racing, [the people at Hastings Park] think about me like I am one of them. I’m super happy.”

As for the sculpture, “I think it looks a little bit skinnier than me, better looking though.”

Gutierrez will race at Hastings at 3:15pm today and people are encouraged to come down and watch him for free.

I’ll Have Another pulled out of the Belmont Stakes because of an injury but will likely make a lot of money when he’s put out to stud.
