Man accused of axe attack in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The VPD says it will recommend assault and weapons charges against a man accused of attacking his roommate with an axe last night.

It happened at an apartment in Kitsilano. Constable Lindsey Houghton says the victim ran from his suite on on West 4th Avenue to a nearby gas station, where people filling up were confronted with a pretty gruesome scene.

“Officers were driving around Kits and they were flagged over by passers-by at West 4th Avenue and MacDonald. These passers-by told the officers that there was a man bleeding profusely from the neck,” he explains.

“Police went to the apartment to find the suspect. After a short search, he was found hiding in a nearby car and taken into custody without incident,” he says.

“This potentially-deadly assault appears to be the result of an argument between the roommates over property, that quickly escalated to where the accused allegedly grabbed an axe and began to hit the victim in the head,” adds Houghton.

The 43-year-old is not known to police. His roommate was treated for cuts to his head, neck, and arm before being released.
