This weekend expected to be a scorcher in BC

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – Just days ago, we were complaining about the weather. Not anymore!

The first full weekend of July is going to be the first real weekend of summer in BC.

“The real pressure cooker, I think, will be in the Southern Interior. We’ll be watching for temperatures approaching the 40-degree mark by Sunday,” explains News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate.

“I think it’ll be 33 degrees in Whistler this weekend. Over the east side of Metro Vancouver, into the Valley, we’re looking for the temperature to flirt with the 30-degree mark on Sunday,” he adds.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had these kind of conditions.

“I checked the last time the Lower Mainland temperature topped 30, and that was in the Fraser Valley in early September last year. So, it’s been about 10 months since we’ve had numbers like these in the local forecast,” explains Lacate.

“Of course, we’re not there yet; it’s really ideal weather in the short term. [It’ll be] very comfortable,” notes Lacate. “We’ll have a blue sky and a sea breeze today and about 23 degrees for downtown Vancouver.”

“You’re in the clear tonight; the low is around 12. It should be a beautiful day tomorrow with temperatures in the mid to upper-20s in that summer sun. Your seawall temperature is 25 on Saturday, and 26 on Sunday,”” he adds.
