VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The seawall expansion in Kitsilano could be one step closer to reality.
The plan before council is to extend the seawall from Kitsilano to Jericho beach and the waterfront route has already received backing from an anonymous donor.
“I’ve been working with the Mayor on this and he said an anonymous donor has come forward,” explains Vancouver Park Board Chair Sarah Blyth. “[It is] really exciting because when you have a certain amount of funding, then you can leverage other funding from the province and from the federal government.”
The donation is said to be in the tens of millions of dollars.
“He [Mayor Gregor Robertson] said at the time, he would look around and see if there would be anyone willing to help with this…They are a user of the seawall and are very excited to be involved with this project.”
City council will vote on the plan this upcoming week before it heads to community consultation.
