VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Raising money in your skivvies.
That’s the idea behind the BC Cancer Foundation’s Underwear Affair walk-run event in Vancouver. This weekend it raised more money than ever before.
Foundation President Doug Nelson says they brought in $633,000 to aid research into below-the-belt cancers like prostate and cervical cancer. That brings the eight year total for the event to over $2.5-million.
“The dollars raised in this event allow researchers and doctors to develop new ways of detection the cancers earlier,” he explains. “With these types of cancers, it makes a huge difference in terms of patient outcomes.”
More than a thousand people stripped down to their underwear to run 10 kilometres, or walk five kilometres at the fundraiser today.
