Helping the homeless doesn’t stop in the summer

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Helping find shelter for the homeless isn’t something organizations do only in the winter time.

With summer upon us, Union Gospel Mission wants people to know about what it does to ensure people in need are safe when things start to heat up.

Temperatures are far from extreme, but Keela Keeping with the Mission says they are ready to provide relief from the sun this season for the city’s homeless with water, sunscreen and hats.

“We’ve also had the opportunity to have all of our frontline workers trained in first aid,  that’s new this year so they can watch out for sighs of heat stroke with anyone struggling and their a bit more prepared,” she says.

The shelter isn’t at full capacity right now, however, that could change with the weather.

She adds people often forget services are needed all year round.
