Whitecaps add Scottish striker Kenny Miller

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The summer makeover continues for the Vancouver Whitecaps, who have announced the signing of Scottish striker Kenny Miller.

The Whitecaps have additional cap space and an available international spot on the roster after parting ways with veterans Davide Chumiento and Sebastien Le Toux this week.

“We’re delighted to bring an experienced striker like Kenny to our club,” said Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie. “He has been a proven goal-scorer with big clubs in Scotland and played in the England Premier League. His speed, energy, and work rate will be a valuable asset to our club, as we look to have a strong second half of the season in MLS.”

Miller, 32  joins Vancouver after spending the 2011-12 season with Cardiff City FC overseas, a team he joined after a brief stint in Turkey with Bursaspor.  Miller, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, has captained Scotland,  scoring 16 goals in 60 international appearances for his country.

Miller has won Scottish Premier League, Scottish FA Cup, and Scottish League Cup titles with Rangers and Celtic, scoring 187 goals in 547 career club matches.

Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi hopes that Miller will provide some well-needed goalscoring and says that fans could see Miller log a few minutes in Wednesday’s home game with the LA Galaxy.
