Balbino blast leads Canadians to win over Emeralds

By

EUGENE, OR (NEWS1130) – Balbino Fuenmayor broke a tie as he hammered a solo shot to centre field with two outs in the sixth inning and it provided the winning run as the Vancouver Canadians topped the Eugene Emeralds 4-1.

The C’s got on the board first as Jorge Flores led off the game with a double and then eventually scored on a Jason Leblebijian ground out.

The Emeralds would pull even right away as Corey Adamson would reach the plate to make it 1-1.

The game remained tied until the top of the sixth inning when Fuenmayor’s blast put Vancouver up 2-1. It was his fourth home run of the season.

Vancouver would add a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning for insurance to round out the scoring.

Former UBC Thunderbirds pitcher Eric Brown (1-4) lasted five innings. He allowed just the single run on five hits while striking out six. He earned his first win of the season.

The Canadians and Emeralds will meet again tomorrow in a rubber-match.
