Galaxy provides Whitecaps with tough homecoming

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A sellout crowd of over 21,000 fans will be on hand tonight at BC Place for the first Major League Soccer visit by David Beckham and the LA Galaxy.

Beckham visited with the Galaxy in 2007 when the two teams played a friendly at BC Place, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Whitecaps will be happy to return home from a five-game road trip. Vancouver is 5-1-3 at BC Place this season, but the Galaxy is coming off its best game of the season, hammering Portland 5-3 on the road Saturday in Oregon. Beckham scored twice in the match.

The game is also a key match in the MLS Standings. LA (8-10-2) sit four points back of fourth-place Vancouver in the Western Conference. The two teams met just three weeks ago with the Galaxy winning 3-0 at the Home Depot Place in Carson, California.

Vancouver will be without defender Alain Rochat who has acquired too many yellow cards and forward Eric Hassli who twisted an ankle in the Whitecaps’ last match, a 1-0 road loss to the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

Game time is 7 p.m.
