VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The city may start standing up for the video game industry in Vancouver after two companies shut down operations over the last couple of weeks.
News1130 is speaking with a video game reviewer who says it is about time.
“The city and the province need to make a really dramatic statement to let the developers of the city know how important and how valuable they are.”
That’s Victor Lucas, host of Electric Playground reacting to Mayor Gregor Robertson wanting to rally the federal government to promote a national interactive digital media strategy. He says a letter could also be written to the province to beef up those tax incentives.
“It is something that is overdue and think we need to keep up. We need to keep costs down and incentives high to keep business here.”
But BC’s jobs minister said this week upping tax incentives would take away from things like healthcare and education.
