BURNS LAKE (NEWS1130) – It’s been six months after a fiery explosion at a mill in Burns Lake killed two workers and left dozens of others out of work.

Jobs and Tourism Minister Pat Bell notes more than $17 million has been invested in the area, but 100 people are still unemployed. He tells us the province is now looking at what can be done to help people find work.

“I’ve asked our team to go back in and look at what we need to do… Perhaps hosting another job fair, working with the local community and one-on-one with individuals in the region,” says Bell.

“We’ve done some work around a tourism plan… downtown revitalization and so on,” he adds.

“We’ve also announced an expanded recreation centre for Burns Lake that will help pull the community together and hopefully, deal with some of the psychological challenges.”
