Four companies shortlisted in liquor distribution bid

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The private bids for control of BC’s public liquor distribution system have been narrowed down to four companies.

The shortlist was initially expected to include three companies, but the minister of labour, citizen’s services and open government, Margaret MacDiarmid, says the point system used in the process resulted in a tie for third.

The four bidders include ContainerWorld Forwarding Services Inc., Exel Canada Ltd., Metro Supply Chain Group Inc. and Kuehne + Nagel.

MacDiarmid says the final decision on the process will be made by October.

Meanwhile, BC Government Employees Union president Darryl Walker says the controversial sale will cost the province a good revenue source.

Walker says the province could make even better use of the system by expanding its retail presence and hours of operation.
