VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you were worried about an increase in impaired driving because you are now allowed to bring a bottle of wine to a restaurant in BC, it may not be such a concern after all.
MADD Canada has been watching how other provinces handle the move and they haven’t seen too many issues.
“The corkage fees they charge really do discourage people from bringing it in.”
Executive Director Andrew Murrie says wine clubs and people with rare bottles are more likely to take advantage of the new rules.
He says restaurants are still liable if people are perhaps “over-serving” themselves.
“It has turned out to be kind of a non issue as there are other things we are focusing on.”
