Mayor of Coquitlam meets with panel about Colony Farm

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – It’s been two months and there’s still no sign of two patients who didn’t return to Colony Farm Forensic hospital.

Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart has had a meeting with a special panel that is looking at leaves from psychiatric facilities.

He says the best way to keep the community calm is through information from the hospital. “As soon as they can possibly tell us something has gone sideways, that’s really good information.”

“Our police department certainly appreciates the fact that the institution let them know as quickly as possible,” he adds.

Stewart feels it can be a challenge to get locals to support the facilty. “If the community loses support, it loses faith, loses the kind of confidence they traditionally had, then we can make it really difficult for that kind of institution to continue to operate.”

Two reviews have been launched; the first one fuond there are no violations in hospital protocol. The hospital has temporarily suspended its unescorted day-pass program.
