SURREY (NEWS1130) – A major roadway in Surrey has re-opened after a fatal crash overnight.
It happened at the intersection of 150th Street and 88th Avenue just before 1 a.m.
RCMP say a 48-year-old woman was driving westbound on 88th Avenue when she turned left onto 150th Street. The 48-year-old motorcyclist was traveling eastbound.
“At this point, we believe at fairly high rate of speed and he collided with the rear quarter-panel of the Mitsubishi Galant vehicle,” explains RCMP Sergeant Paul Reshaur. “He died as a result of the impact. This motorcycle slid quite a ways, indicating again a fairly high rate of speed.”
Reshaur adds the motorcycle came to a stop a block away from the crash near 151st Street.
The woman was not injured.
The intersection was closed for a few hours overnight as the coroner, Surrey RCMP Crash Collision Investigation Team and the reconstructionist attended the scene.
Police say speed, but not alcohol, was a factor in the crash.
