Norwegians remember one-year anniversary of Breivik massacre

NORWAY (NEWS1130) – It was one year ago today that the relative calm in Norway was shattered after a massacre left 77 people dead in two different areas.
Thousands of Norwegians have gathered to remember the sombre anniversary, paying their respects to the many victims and their families.
The king and prime minister of Norway lead a memorial and church service to mark the anniversary of the bomb-and-gun attack.
“The year that has passed has taught us how important life is, how fragile it is,” said Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.
Extremist Anders Behring Breivik has admitted to the crimes.
In Oslo, BBC reporter Lars Bevanger says Breivik has been tried, but we won’t know the outcome for about another month.
“We still don’t know whether they will find him to be sane or insane, there are questions about his sanity,” said Bevanger. “If they find him to be sane he will end up prison. If they find he is insane, he will be admitted to psychiatric care.”
Prime Minister Stoltenberg says Breivik has failed in his declared goal of destroying Norway’s commitment to being an inclusive, multicultural society.
