VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks have avoided arbitration with restricted free agent winger Dale Weise, signing the 24-year-old to a one-year one-way contract extension.

Weise joined the Canucks last year after he was waived by the New York Rangers, who drafted the former Swift Current junior 11th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Winnipeg native would spend three years in the Rangers’ farm system before being picked up by the Canucks on waivers in time for their October 2011 season opener.

The gritty fourth-line winger recorded 4 goals and 4 assists in 68 games for Vancouver in 2011-12. The signing comes just two days before the two sides had an arbitration date.
