It’s Christmas in July!

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Christmas is probably the last thing you’re thinking about right now. But this morning, many people took part in “Christmas in July.”

It was the latest push from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank to feed the needy.

Santa and his volunteers were at the Burrard SkyTrain Station, collecting food and cash donations to nourish thousands of people in need.

Aart Schuurman Hess with the food bank says demand has shot up by 10 per cent in the last year. “If you think about employment [and] the living wage… they all play a factor in the life of a needy family.”

He also points out some kids don’t get meals from school programs.

A total of 330 lbs of food was collected this morning.
