Some relief after Jamie Bacon’s appeal fails

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The mother a man killed in the Surrey Six shootings nearly five years ago is happy Jamie Bacon has lost his appeal on weapons convictions.

Eileen Mohan believes the 26-year-old just wants a chance to get back to a life of crime.

Her son Chris was killed with five others in a Surrey apartment in 2007. Bacon is one of several people charged in connection with those murders.

Eileen says Bacon’s attempt to have his conviction on separate gun charges overturned had a simple motive behind it.

“People like him will try every sentence from the Charter of Rights to set themselves free so they can be back on the streets and do what they do best — sell drugs and commit crimes,” Mohan believes.

She thinks Bacon still wants to believe he can get away with whatever he wants.

“When I read and listen about him on the news, I just think he’s trying to prove a point that he’s beyond the law.”

Mohan adds trial dates are expected next year for those accused in the Surrey Six killings.

Bacon, with his two brothers, has been linked by police to the leadership of the Red Scorpions gang. His elder brother, Jarrod, is serving a 12-year sentence after being convicted in May on drug trafficking charges, while his eldest brother, Jonathan, was shot to death in a gang hit in Kelowna last summer.
